A Legacy of Ranching and Angus Genetics

Roger Wann and his wife Kathy reside in Poteau, Oklahoma, where they operate the family’s Angus cattle – Wann Ranch. With his brother Danny, Roger oversees a herd of 350 registered Angus cows and 80 commercial cows. Their family ranching legacy extends back more than 100 years, beginning as a commercial cow-calf operation before transitioning to an Angus seedstock operation in the late 1980s.

Their first dozen Angus cows were purchased from a family relative, and the impact of Angus genetics was quickly realized. A foundational Angus bull from Belle Point Ranch solidified their direction, and they never looked back. Wann Ranch has since grown into one of the top Angus herds in the state, known for its well-managed AI program, disciplined calving season windows, and strong marketing of registered bulls. Today, the operation markets 150+ bulls annually and continues to be fully managed by the Wann family.

Roger, over the last 10 years recently was able to move back to the ranch, gives all the credit to his brother Danny and father Jim for doing the day-to-day management building the Wann Ranch herd to what it is today. To be an active participant in the ranch, coordination and communication are vital between the brothers.

Danny also plays a vital role in Angus Prime Consulting. Danny holds a master’s degree in Biology from Southeast Oklahoma State University.  He taught many science classes at Carl Albert State College for more than 30 years. He has great expertise in forage management, hay production, mineral and cow herd nutrition as well as proper implementation of herd health programs. Danny’s unique skill set makes him a great knowledge addition to Angus Prime Consulting.
